What you are getting into

Your first 10 minutes
Install the XAPK using the install guide. Open Engine Sim, leave everything on automatic, pick the V8 American Muscle, and just work the throttle. Idle, half throttle, full throttle, lift off suddenly. Listen to how the note changes. That is the whole tutorial.
Then try this
Switch to paddle mode and tap through the gears while revving. Then try the kei turbo for comedy, the diesel six for torque, and the W16 because you have to. The engine guide ranks all 28 by character.
The deep end
When revving gets boring (it takes longer than you think), switch to manual, learn the clutch, and chase silent shifts with the shifting guide. That is where the toy becomes a skill.
